John Radford
Ph.D. Psychology
For the past three decades John has been helping organizations and leaders across the globe to embrace diversity and uncertainty while leveraging conflict for corporate success and personal leadership growth. John has specialised in the analysis and facilitation of complex organizational transformation working in the commercial, government, labour and community sectors. A major focus of his work internationally has been on assessing and building organizational capacity for transition. He is an accomplished international business and leadership coach, mediator, published author and university professor.
With the belief that business breakthroughs often come from the edge rather than the centre of current thinking, John works with business leaders to enhance their organization’s responsiveness, with a particular focus on building a strong team culture. Known for calling things as they are, John respectfully pushes leaders to engage in the necessary conversations and decisions otherwise avoided.
A recognized expert in the area of trust and conflict, John is also the co-owner of Transpectives Consulting Inc., which seeks to transform conflict by changing perspective. His experience and skill set are ideally suited to working with family business transitions, facilitating strategic decisions based on the reality of the competitive business world and family dynamics. Another major focus of his work has been on setting up business transitions and corporate mergers & acquisitions for success. The mark of his approach is the identification of pivotal leverage points to effect structural and relational changes necessary for sustainable business competitive advantage.
John’s conflict expertise has roots back to the final decade of the Apartheid era, when he worked in the South African violence-torn townships to build capacity for conflict as a foundation for the hoped for peaceful societal transition. His work ultimately helped lay the foundation for the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission under Nelson Mandela’s leadership.
John has a Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology from the University of Natal, South Africa. He is a registered mediator with Mediate BC. He has also received international education in deep-rooted conflict facilitation from The Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution: George Mason University and John Hopkins Institute for Peace: New York. He is a founding associate faculty member of the Royal Roads University Masters program in Conflict Analysis and Management, and past Chair (Full Professor) in the School of Management Studies at the University of Cape Town.
John’s loves are his wife of 37 years, their daughter and messing about the West Coast in his classic cruising boat.
